- Hand feel
- Midweight at 115 GSM, the cloth feels softly dry and textured in the hand with a pronounced slubby surface and a gentle, semi-sheer drape (see images). It holds shape more than a flowing chiffon but still moves softly — ideal where structure with lightweight comfort is needed.

- Suggested uses
- ✦ Ideal for 1) Lightweight button-up blouses and camp shirts (unlined) 2) Lined summer slip-dresses and shirt-dresses 3) Kimono-style layering jackets and duster wraps 4) Scarves, narrow stoles and lightweight neckerchiefs 5) Semi-sheer café or lightweight curtain panels. These uses suit the fabric because the medium 115 GSM weight, slubby surface and semi-sheer drape give texture and breathable structure ideal for layered apparel and soft home sheers. ✦ Also suitable for Lined A-line skirts or gathered skirts (requires lining), fully-lined summer jackets, dress overlays and pinafore layers (wear over a slip), decorative cushion covers with a backing fabric — all work well with small additions such as linings or interfacings where opacity or stability is needed. ✦ Not recommended for Heavy upholstery, structured tailored coats, children’s playwear and activewear, swimwear, or high-abrasion items — the semi-sheer, slubby weave and delicate silk fibres are not durable enough for heavy or high-wear applications.
- Care instructions
- Wash by hand in lukewarm/cool water with a mild silk detergent or choose a delicate machine cycle inside a mesh bag; do not bleach. Gently squeeze out water, reshape and dry flat or hang in shade away from direct sunlight; do not tumble dry. Iron inside-out on a low silk setting while slightly damp or use a cloth between iron and fabric; store folded in a cool dark place with moth deterrent.
- Washing and shrinkage
- Handwash gently in cool water (or delicate machine on a silk cycle in a mesh bag); expect approximately 3–5% shrinkage on the first wash if not pre-shrunk.
- Craft story
- Handwoven by small weaving collectives in Bengal, this Tussar silk is spun and woven using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. The fabric’s characteristic slubs and natural irregularities are the signature of hand-loomed Tussar — each metre carries the visible rhythm of the weaver’s shuttle. Lightly finishing by hand preserves the raw, earthy sheen that makes this cloth quietly special.
- Colour notes
- The colour is a warm, light beige with subtle tonal variation and natural slub shadowing that reads like a soft honeyed sand. It will read slightly warmer indoors under incandescent light and a touch cooler in strong daylight — small batch dyeing and the handloom weave produce pleasing, organic shifts in tone.
- Additional notes
- Please note: natural dye and handwoven characteristics mean colour and slub pattern will vary slightly between rolls — this is part of the handmade charm. Because the cloth is semi-sheer, lining is recommended for opaque garments.
