- Hand feel
- The cloth reads as a lightweight, gauze-like cotton with a soft but textured hand and a visible open weave; in the photos you can see the slubs and tiny flecks that give the surface character. It feels airy in the hand and drapes softly rather than holding sharp structure (approx. 100–150 GSM based on weave density and hand). The surface has gentle tooth and a slightly rustic, matte finish — breathable and ideal for layered pieces.

- Suggested uses
- ✦ Ideal for Lightweight overshirts and relaxed shirts; beach cover-ups, sarongs and kimono-style wraps; scarves, neckerchiefs and lightweight shawls; sheer curtains, café panels and rustic window sheers; lined summer dresses and tunics (if a soft lining is used). These uses suit the fabric because its open, airy weave and natural drape are perfect for relaxed layers, breezy sunwear and gentle, decorative translucency. ✦ Also suitable for Cushion covers and pillow shams (best with a backing or lining); lightweight lined skirts and slip dresses; lampshade covers and decorative room dividers; soft market totes and grocery bags with a canvas lining or interfacing — lining or underlining recommended for structure and opacity. ✦ Not recommended for Heavy upholstery, structured tailoring or formal suiting; fitted trousers or garments that require a lot of recovery; technical or activewear, swimwear, and any application needing a hard-wearing, high-abrasion surface; items requiring a perfectly uniform, mill-finish look.
- Care instructions
- Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle or hand wash in cold to lukewarm water (max 30°C). Use mild detergent, avoid bleach, reshape and line dry flat or on the line out of direct sun; avoid tumble drying to reduce shrinkage. Iron on a medium cotton setting while slightly damp or use steam; store folded in a cool, dry place away from prolonged sunlight to prevent yellowing.
- Washing and shrinkage
- Handloom natural cotton — wash gently in cool or lukewarm water (max 30°C). Expect modest shrinkage on the first wash of around 3–5% if washed warm; pre-washing by the cutter/sewer is recommended to stabilise the finished piece.
- Craft story
- Handwoven on small family looms in India, this ecru handloom cotton is the product of skilled weavers who carry a generation-old rustic weaving tradition. The open, slightly irregular grid and natural flecks are honest signatures of hand processing rather than mill-perfect finish. What makes it special is the quietly textured surface and airy structure — a tactile, natural cloth that reads as both artisan and utilitarian.
- Colour notes
- Ecru here is a warm, natural off-white with subtle beige undertones and small irregular specks from the hand-processing. The tone reads warmer in soft incandescent light and slightly cooler in bright daylight — small batch and handloom variation is part of its charm.
- Additional notes
- Please note: natural yarns and handloom weaving produce slight variation in shade, slubs and weave density between batches — this is part of the handmade character. Because the weave is open, we recommend pre-washing and (for garments needing opacity) lining before construction.
