Hand feel
The cloth feels light and slightly crisp to the touch with an open, gauze‑like structure; at 120 GSM it sits in the medium‑light range — substantial enough to handle yet very breathable. The surface shows visible slubs and a loose square weave (see images) so it drapes softly but keeps a gentle structure rather than flowing like a voile.

Suggested uses
✦ Ideal for Sheer window panels and café curtains; lightweight summer blouses and tunic tops; oversized button‑up shirts and shirt‑dresses layered over slips; beach and pool cover‑ups or kaftan overlays; light scarves and kerchiefs. These uses make the most of the fabric's 120 GSM body, open weave, and translucent, textured surface while keeping projects commercially practical. ✦ Also suitable for Lined shirt‑dresses, skirts or slip dresses (use a lightweight cotton or voile lining); summer pinafores and aprons with underlining; lampshades or decorative panels backed with thin interfacing or backing fabric; lightweight cushion covers with a sturdy lining or removable inner for strength. ✦ Not recommended for Upholstery, heavy‑use cushions, structured jackets or coats, jeans and tailored trousers, swimwear or any project requiring waterproofing or high abrasion resistance — the open weave and low thread density make this fabric unsuitable for heavy wear or high‑stress seams.
Care instructions
Wash gently in cool water, avoid bleach and harsh detergents. Line dry or lay flat in the shade to prevent sun‑fading and distortion; tumble dry not recommended. Iron on a medium setting with steam (around 150°C) using a press cloth if you want a smoother finish. Store folded in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Washing and shrinkage
Machine wash on a gentle or hand wash cycle in cool water (20–30°C) with a mild detergent; expect approximately 4–6% shrinkage on the first wash — prewash yardage before cutting to allow for this.
Craft story
Woven by small cooperative handloom houses in India, this Natural Ecru Open-Weave Cotton is a slow-made textile that honours a generations‑old plain‑weave tradition. Artisans use wide reed counts and slightly uneven yarns to create the airy grid and soft slubs you can see in the photos. The result is a quietly textured, breathable cloth with an honest, handcrafted character that reads both contemporary and timeless.
Colour notes
The ecru tone is a warm, natural beige with soft yellow‑cream undertones; the open weave and slubs create subtle tonal variation across the surface. Backlit the fabric reads more luminescent and slightly lighter, while in softer indoor light the colour feels warmer and more muted — a hallmark of unbleached, naturally finished cotton.
Additional notes
Please note: as a handcrafted, naturally finished fabric each piece will show slight variation in weave density, slubs and tone between batches. We recommend prewashing before cutting to allow for the expected initial shrinkage and hand character.
