At 120 GSM the cotton sits between a voile and a light shirting — airy and slightly sheer but with enough body for modest structure. The surface shows a gently slubby weave and a matte, natural finish (visible in the images) that gives a soft, breathable drape. It feels light in the hand with a comfortable, lived-in touch rather than a crisp, starched stiffness.

Suggested uses

✦ Ideal for Relaxed summer blouses and camp shirts; Lined shirt-dresses or slip dresses (use a light cotton or voile lining); Gathered or tiered midi skirts with a lightweight lining; Lightweight interior window voile panels or café curtains; Long scarves and neckerchiefs. These uses take advantage of the fabric’s airy 120 GSM body, delicate translucency and soft hand while making the most of the small-scale block print. ✦ Also suitable for Camisoles and chemises (with a cotton lawn lining); Children’s summer dresses (fully lined for opacity); Decorative lampshades or thin-backed cushion panels (use interfacing or lining for durability); Table runners or placemats with a backing layer — minor construction adjustments will add opacity and strength. ✦ Not recommended for Structured tailoring such as blazers or fitted jackets, heavy-duty upholstery, heavy trousers or denim-style pants, swimwear or activewear, or items requiring high abrasion resistance — the weave is too light and the handprint is not suited to heavy wear.

Care instructions

Machine wash gentle or hand wash cold with mild, pH-neutral detergent; do not bleach. Line dry flat or hang to dry in shade to avoid colour fade; reshape while damp. Iron on a medium cotton setting (around 150°C) from the wrong side or use a press cloth for the print. Store folded away from direct sunlight to protect the natural dyes.

Washing and shrinkage

Gentle cold wash (30°C) or hand wash with mild detergent; expect approximately 3–5% shrinkage on the first wash — pre-washing is recommended before cutting.

Craft story

Hand-blocked in a small artisan co-operative in western India, this cloth is printed by skilled block-carvers who have passed their craft down through generations. Each repeat is hand-stamped using plant-based, earth-toned pigments on an ecru cotton ground, so small irregularities and soft edge-bleeds become part of the fabric’s personality. The result is a quietly elegant, time-honoured textile that reads modern in its restraint and warm in its hand.

Colour notes

A soft ecru ground serves as a neutral backdrop to warm, earthy brown motifs — the print reads as a muted, natural brown rather than a saturated chocolate. Plant-based hand printing gives subtle tone variation and soft, imperfect edges that warm up in sunlight and appear slightly cooler indoors.
