Suggested uses
This medium-weight Ajrakh cotton is ideal for shirts, kurtas, dresses, skirts and lightweight jackets as well as scarves and stoles. It also works beautifully for home projects like cushion covers, table runners and patchwork quilting, or as accent panels and trims in garments. One yard is perfect for a scarf, a shirt front panel, or coordinated patchwork pieces.
Care instructions
Turn fabric inside out and handwash or machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle with a mild, pH-neutral detergent; avoid bleach and strong surfactants which strip natural dyes. Wash separately for the first few washes to prevent dye transfer, then dry in shade to preserve the indigo; press on the reverse while slightly damp if needed. Store away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Washing and shrinkage
Expect a small amount of shrinkage — typically around 3–5% — if the fabric is not pre-washed; colours may also soften slightly after the first wash. We recommend pre-washing separately in cold water before cutting and stitching to stabilise size and colour.
Craft story
This Ajrakh cotton is made in the centuries‑old tradition of Kutch and Sindh, where master printers use carved wooden blocks and a layered resist-dyeing process to achieve its complex indigo and yellow motifs. Artisans skillfully combine natural mordants and multiple dips in indigo to build depth of color and precise geometric patterns. Each yard carries subtle variations that testify to the handcraftsmanship of the printer and dyer.
Colour notes
The indigo blue takes the lead in this stunning palette, enveloping the fabric in its rich, deep hue. Accented by the warm, sunny yellow and the subtle natural off-white, the colors harmonize beautifully, their variations reflecting the artisan's touch and the organic dyeing process.
Additional notes
natural dye colours may vary slightly between batches. This is part of the handmade character of our fabrics.
