- Care instructions
- Handwash separately in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent to protect the natural dyes; avoid bleach and harsh soaps. Dry in the shade or flat to prevent fading and iron on medium heat inside out; avoid tumble drying and prolonged soaking to preserve the crisp block prints.
- Washing and shrinkage
- Expect a small natural shrinkage of around 3–5%; we recommend pre-washing the fabric separately in cold water before cutting or sewing to minimize further shrinkage and any initial colour bleed.
- Craft story
- Ajrakh is an ancient block-printing and resist-dyeing tradition rooted in the Kutch region of Gujarat and the Sindh plains, practiced by skilled artisan families over generations. Each indigo, red and black motif is applied with carved wooden blocks and fixed using natural mordants across multiple slow stages, producing the deep, layered hues and distinctive geometric patterns that define authentic Ajrakh cotton.
- Colour notes
- The deep indigo blue forms a tranquil backdrop, enriched by the vibrant terracotta red and striking black, creating a tapestry of tones that evoke the earth and sky. The natural dyeing process imbues each hue with a unique depth and character, revealing subtle variations that speak to the artisan's hand.
- Additional notes
- natural dye colours may vary slightly between batches. This is part of the handmade character of our fabrics.
